DANIEL VIGLIETTI
Born on July 24, 1939 in the bosom of a family of musicians - his
mother was the pianist Lyda Indart, and his guitarist Cedar
Viglietti - father, from child comes into contact with classical
and popular music.
He studied guitar with the teacher Atilio Rapat and Abel Carlevaro,
thus gaining a solid training as a concert pianist to then dedicate
himself, in the 1960s, mainly popular music.
Over the past decade develops an intense activity as
composer-songwriter, singer, teacher and broadcaster on radio,
which is part of a growing mobilization of popular in
Uruguay. Participates in the weekly March, and creates
and directs the core of music education (Nemus). His
first recording work is "Prints for singing and guitar and folk
songs" of 1963, followed five productions until
1973.
His work takes a radical character of strong social
content and left, with letters associated with the popular in
Uruguay and Latin America struggles. In the framework
of repression of the leftist movements that preceded the military
coup of 1973, Viglietti is prisoner in 1972. The
campaign for his release from the outside was led by names like
Jean Paul Sartre, François Mitterrand, Julio Cortázar and Oscar
Niemeyer.
In 1973 he began his exile in Argentina, which will
then continue in France, country where he lived for 11
years. During the exile retracts his composition
ability, all the songs of the time are only published on his
return, in a recorded live disc, "not by chance" entitled "work of
the Ant". However, continues an intense newspaper and
radio work, and mostly travels the world in solidarity concert
tours, taking her singing and denouncing the dictatorship in the
Uruguay and several countries in Latin America.
