Reunion

1937, "ROLAND GARROS" flight, 50c. red vertical pair showing variety "LOWER STAMP WITHOUT OVERPRINT" in combination with 75c. on registered flight cover, the pair oblit. "SAINT DENIS 21.1.37" (two days prior to stated first day of issue) resp. 25.1.37 (75c. and repeated alongside), flight cachet "Premiere liaison aeropostale / Reunion-France / (sans surtaxe) / Equipage Laurent Touge-Lenier" on front, addressed to La Demi-Lune/Rhone. The plane "Roland Garros" with team Laurent/Touge/Lenier on board left Reunion on 26 Jan 1937 and flew via Madagascar, Mocambique, Djibouti, Port Sudan, Cairo, Damascus, Tripoli, Rhodes, Athens, Naples to Marseille which was reached on 10 Feb 1937, Lyon transit mark 12.2.37 and La Demi-Lune arrival mark 13.2.37 on reverse. Envelope some postal wear and few faint tonings as to be expected, lower stamps of pair some slight round corner (irrelevant). Attractive airmail rarity of French area, signed Roumet. Maury PA1b, 3.750,- €++.
